Halloween Candy Basket

It’s that time of year again where I make Halloween gifts with my niece for her teachers. We posted this DIY before but these are just too cute we had to do it again! This time, my husband got over 180 full size candy bars for $25 due to Target miss pricing it and we’re spreading the joy by giving them out as gifts and we included them in this basket for my niece, Madison's Kinder teacher.

I like using a variety of sizes in length and width to make it look more fun. I then cover the candy bars with random Halloween characters which includes the jackolantern, ghost, frankenstein, mummy, and bat. I’m sure there can be way more cuter characters you can work with.

We finished it with some cute ribbon on the sides and tagged it with a Halloween card. Voila, there’s our Halloween Candy Basket for Madison’s Kinder teacher.

Let’s Make Flowers Take 2

Just another recap from our recent paper flower workshop at Oh, Hello Friend Studio in Fullerton, CA. I was so excited when I was invited to host our paper flower workshop here. I remember the space being super cute from when I attended a calligraphy workshop there. If you haven’t been able to make it to our workshops yet, we have a few more dates coming up soon. Please check out our workshops page at www.handmadebysarakim.com/workshops or you can directly purchase tickets to our next workshop with OHF here

Don’t you love that brick wall! I also set up our giant paper flowers that were almost as tall as me with assorted paper flowers as our centerpieces. We also gave out some free bows so don’t miss out on our next workshop!

Thank you all for coming out and making flowers with me! Checkout some of our students pictures at #letsmakeflowers on instagram. View our past workshops here

AND I present to you our new paper succulents! We will be featuring them in our next workshop and possibly have a workshop in the future with just paper succulents and potting them. Can’t wait to share with you all soon! I can’t even keep succulents alive!! They say you don’t need to water them often etc, but if you are like me, you will need these paper succulents that needs no watering. You can also directly purchase them here for party favors or just for your office.

Let’s Make Flowers

We hosted a paper flower workshop with Something Borrowed Something Vintage and it was so much fun! We worked extra hard to add lots of handmade details and it looked great with the vintage vibe from the warehouse. We added lots of paper flowers as centerpieces, all the included materials, and even our handmade polka dot table runner. Thanks for all the amazing images Michael Ryu, our photographer for the event.

We felt so blessed when we found out the workshop tickets were sold out and we were so excited, we decided to do another one for those who missed it. You can sign up here!

Some more details from our workshop. Our next workshop will be held September 5th in Brea on Friday, which means we’re popping some bubbly and serving sweets for our craft night. We would love to see you there!

We also had our sample table set up with Something Borrowed Something Vintage's vanity. We love hosting workshops! View our past workshops here. Thank you all for coming out and making beautiful flowers with us!

Creative Space

I officially took over my husband’s man cave. I was originally working out of our small guest room and we had this giant room for my husband but for the longest time, he basically used it as storage (hoarder room). Finally, I just moved everything out of the room, took over while he was gone at work and surprised him. It’s still in the works, but had to present it to you all since I’ve been instagram-ing it recently.

This is the corner where most of my admin takes place. Most of the furniture is from Ikea or target. As a small business owner, I take on many random roles from admin, designer, maker, blogger, and even at times photographer. But I LOVE what I do. I’m truly blessed and I owe it all to my savior who always provides! I make flowers, get inspired, sew, take pictures, and more in this room. Welcome to where I live my dreams~

My favorite part is how much more floor space I have compared to before. Now handmade can do bigger and better things!

before and after

Our previous post with our "diy wedding dress in the making" was so popular that I instantly wanted these dresses photographed in a bridal shoot. I love how it turned out and even I can’t believe how much better it looks from the original dress.

The dresses both worn in these pictures were upcycled and accessorized by yours truly, handmadebysarakim hairpieces and sashes.

Thank you for the amazing photos Bryan (first picture) and Alex (2nd-4th picture)

Happy Mother’s Day!

To all the moms out there, Happy Mother’s Day from HandmadeBySaraKim! We love you and we hope you have a great weekend and feel loved. It’s funny that I only started appreciating my mom as I started becoming more of an adult so moms with younger kids, hang in there. Hearing few stories here and there about how my mom became a mom and her past just makes me feel so thankful and so amazed that I had to share one of these stories here. My mom coming from Korea to America with a 2 year old (my older sister) and an abusive husband with about $500 and zero English, got off the plane and told the taxi “KOREATOWN”. In the middle of the night, they were walking around Los Angeles finding any signs of rent and found it after walking about an hour. That’s how her life started here in America. She was a mom and a dad to us ever since then and never gave up on us! For all the single moms out there, you are awesome and amazing and these flowers go to you~

love you mom ♥ sarakim

We are currently in the process of making slight changes to our store and rebranding with a new logo. We have been working with our lovely calligrapher from PerchPaperCo and we love how it turned out. It really fits right in with our handmade accessories. It reminds me of loose thread with a soft and delicate feel with the little details on the side that literally represents our bead work in one of our hairpieces. How do you like our new look?

I loved our original look and we have really come a long way with little changes here and there for the past 3.5 years but I think it was a great time to make a few more changes and I’m so excited for it!

Until we finalize all the changes, please continue to follow us for daily behind the scenes on our instagram @handmadebysarakim ~

DIY Wedding Dress in the Making

I had so much fun re making this $20 prom dress I found thrifting at Goodwill. With some slight changes, I turned a simple white satin prom dress into a dreamy wedding dress. What do you think?

My first plan was to change the neckline from straight to a sweetheart line. I simply cut the middle and hand sewed it back shaping it into a heart. I then cut out the ribbon sash from the original dress.

To change the dull bottom skirt part of the dress, I decided to sew layers and layers of tulle that I got for $5. I sewed it in a way where I bunched up the skirt just enough to get some volume and then I attached it to a ribbon sash with an applique in the center.

Voila! That’s our after result. Altogether I spent $30! It was such a fun little project and now I’m constantly on a lookout for some potential cream colored prom dresses thrifting or if any of you would like to donate any old wedding dresses, please let us know!!!

Yay, a bride wearing an original handmadebysarakim pearl halo was featured on StyleMePretty. I love this picture below. What a beautiful wedding and the couple looks amazing.

I love this idea of the tree planting unity ceremony, instead of the candle lighting or the sand ceremony. What a great fit for their rustic ranch wedding. Great shot by This Love Of Yours photography.

The process of making our handmadebysarakim chiffon waves is actually very simple. We hand-sew each rhinestone and pearl. We don’t really use any trims or appliques here in handmadebysarakim trying to keep up with our name “handmade”. Then we make the half wave of flower.

This piece is actually one of our best sellers in the new collection. I personally love the look but I thought brides wouldn’t like it as much because it’s the “half wave”. I think it’s a perfect mix of flower and bling!
